Welcome to the home of one of the oldest and largest academic societies within Durham University: DUGS.
We are a student run society for Durham students interested in Geography and the multiple disciplines that are entwined within the subject. By hosting a wide variety of academic and social events throughout the academic year, we allow students to share experiences and extend friendships beyond the lecture theatre. Running alongside the Geography department, DUGS is a large and active society which continuously strives to improve and increase the services it offers to its members. A few of our exciting plans this for this year include:
As DUGS is a student run society, we are made up of an elected Executive Committee. To meet the Exec, have a look at 'The Exec' page. As a dynamic society, we are always open for suggestions on improvements or new ideas that we can implement in order to expand the society. This year in particular, we are looking to partner with a few other linked academic societies within Durham in order to allow our members to have the full experience of the all-encompassing nature of Geography.
DUGS membership allows Geographers and non-Geographers to intermingle academically and socially by allowing them to interact cross-collegiately and throughout year groups. We encourage you to join and make the most of the benefits we offer our members to enhance your student experience whether you are a geographer or not! Being a member allows access to society events which will be advertised throughout our website, soc emails and social media platforms - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
Please feel free to browse the website to gather information on what the society entails and is involved in!
- Guest speakers in Michaelmas and Epiphany terms
- The annual Geography Ball
- BA vs BSc themed freshers social
- More black tie events and fancy dress socials
- Career talks
