Throughout the academic year DUGS run a wide variety of guest lectures on a fortnightly basis during Michaelmas and Epiphany Term. These are talks by distinguished speakers from across the United Kingdom and abroad whom have expertise in contrasting areas of geographical academia or industry.
Guest lectures often address recent advancements in topical geographic research and are usually highly relevant to modules taken in the department. They therefore offer the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and supplement your course - very useful for exam time and are often accompanied by snacks and refreshments! In the past, termly seminars and conferences on topical issues have also been held where a number of academics have visited Durham to speak throughout the day.
We have a host of incredible guest speakers this term which we can't wait to share with you! The term card of speakers for Michaelmas 2017 will be posted on the website and on our social media accounts within the week's end! We will also post the previous guest speakers from prior years, ranging from well renowned university professors to industry professionals to hosting Nicholas Crane (the head of the Royal Geographical Society) last year!
