Studying in durham
Located in a small pocket of countryside in the North East of England, on a UNESCO world heritage site, going to university at Durham is an experience like no other. You may hear the phrase " work hard, play hard" associated with the Durham experience and no phrase could fit better. At Durham we realise the importance of both an incredibly rigorous academic life and an equally enjoyable social life, hence making sure students have an all-encompassing experience.
A geography degree is arguably one of the more complex degrees at Durham, being ranked as 6th in the QS World University Rankings in 2018 and within the top 3 ranking in the UK. With two geography courses that cater to both human and physical geographers, geography at Durham allows students to explore the multi-disciplinary nature of the subject. A flexible approach to module selection throughout your degree allows geographers to either specialise in a particular discipline or alternatively embark on an integrated path. By offering optional modules from different departments, Durham allows its geographers to tailor a degree for themselves.
Whilst the department and colleges offer a plethora of support, DUGS aims to provide additional help by encouraging student integration through more organic forms such as socials and events. Our guest lecture series through Michaelmas and Epiphany are also complementary to learning content and a great basis for further discussion on relevant topics. By hosting career talks and events such as networking evenings, DUGS helps its members with extra-curricular activities.
